Accessibility

Our target is WCAG 2.2 AA. Here is what is in place, what is not yet, and how to tell us.

Our target

Mandate SA aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. This is our target, not a certification. No independent audit has been carried out yet.

What is in place

  • colour pairs checked against WCAG contrast ratios in light and dark themes whenever the design tokens change;
  • keyboard access and visible focus, a skip link, and landmarks with headings in order;
  • tables with captions and headers, and a table beside every map and chart;
  • respect for reduced-motion settings, and layouts that work from 360 px wide;
  • plain-language labels, and the meaning of each status written out.

How it is checked

These checks run automatically on the code; they are not an audit and do not catch everything:

  • every colour pair used for text and controls is measured against the WCAG contrast ratios, in both themes, whenever the design changes (142 pairs);
  • key pages are loaded in a real browser at phone, tablet and desktop widths (320 to 1,920 pixels) and must not scroll sideways;
  • every footer page is checked for a single main heading, headings in order, labelled form fields and text alternatives for images;
  • forms report problems next to the field concerned, in words; the registration form also moves focus to the first problem.

Screen-reader testing by people who use screen readers, and an independent accessibility audit, have not been done yet. When they are, this page will say so and list what they found.

Known limits

  • Interactive maps are hard to use with a screen reader. The same figures are always available in a table on the page.
  • Some official source documents we link to are scanned PDFs that we cannot make accessible.
  • Content is in English only for now.
  • When switched on, the automated-abuse check on public forms (Cloudflare Turnstile) can be hard for some people to complete. If it stops you, please tell us.
  • Long tables of results scroll sideways inside their own frame on narrow screens.

Reporting a barrier

If something is hard or impossible to use, tell us at info@mandatesa.com. Say which page it was and what assistive technology you use, if any. We will treat it as a defect.
