How we work
Photographs and other third-party images are credited to the people and sources that made them, under the licence each was published with. Photographs set the scene; they are never evidence of anything on the record.
Photographs on this site
Real places in South Africa, from Wikimedia Commons. None shows an identifiable person. Why each was chosen is set out in our sources and licences.

Portraits and party logos on the record
The record holds 443 official portraits and 964 party logos. Each is credited beside the image itself, on the record page that shows it. None is shown until its load has been reviewed and approved, and each is served by its file’s SHA-256 fingerprint.
Maps
Boundaries come from the Municipal Demarcation Board, simplified for display by Mandate SA. Map backgrounds come from OpenFreeMap, built on OpenMapTiles and OpenStreetMap data; their attribution is shown on every interactive map, as their terms require.
