How we work

Corrections and disputes

How to ask for a correction, how it is decided, and every correction made so far.

Asking for a correction

  • On any party or representative page, choose "Dispute this record" or "Submit additional information". Say what is wrong and point to the evidence.
  • People named in the record can also "Respond to the record" or "Claim this profile".
  • You receive a reference to check the status. Your contact details are sealed and never published.
  • For anything else, see report a problem.

How it is decided

An editor reviews every submission against the sources. The official record changes only through a new approved load of the official data, or a recorded correction with its reason. A fact check changes only through a new reviewed version. Each decision is recorded with its reason, and staff actions are logged.

Right of response

A person or organisation named in the record may respond. An accepted response is published as theirs, beside the record, and labelled as their statement.

Corrections and retractions stay visible

A correction is shown with its date and reason. A retraction removes the item from the record, but the retraction notice stays in the log below, so readers can see that something was withdrawn and why. Earlier versions are kept, not rewritten.
