About this record
Coverage, limitations, source issues and how the figures were checked
What the record holds
- Results for every voting district (23 147), ward (4 468) and municipality (213): the ward ballot, the municipal proportional representation (PR) ballot and the district council PR ballot (DC 40%), from the IEC's downloadable detailed results, one file per province.
- Mapped on the Municipal Demarcation Board's 2021 ward and municipal boundaries, the boundaries the election was held on.
What it does not hold
- Votes cast are the sum of valid and spoilt votes (the files give the parts). Contestants are listed in the files' order (alphabetical), not ballot-paper order. Seats are not in these files and are not shown.
Source issues
- Ward candidates are not named in the files: ward-ballot votes are given per party, and all independent ward candidates of a ward are one line, "INDEPENDENT". Stored as published; the winner of a ward is shown only where a party line has the most votes.
- Mpumalanga: the voting-district file (generated 23 November 2021) has 6 fewer spoilt ward-ballot votes and 4 fewer spoilt DC 40% votes than the IEC's summaries (printed later). Valid votes agree exactly. Loaded as the voting-district file states; to raise with the IEC.
How it was read and checked
- Election date: 1 November 2021 (IEC electoral event 1091).
- Reconciled with the IEC's national Results Summary (all ballots): every party line, for every ballot type, nationally and per province, agrees exactly; valid votes agree exactly (ward 11 749 100; PR 11 720 611; DC 40% 7 128 275).
