Quality public healthcare
Oppose the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill: ActionSA
opposes the implementation of the NHI Bill in its current form because
the NHI is not aligned with the realities of South Africa’s public
healthcare system, and its implementation may destabilise the provision
of healthcare across the country. An ActionSA-led government will rather
prioritise fixing the public healthcare system by eliminating corruption,
streamlining management and administration, and increasing investment
into primary healthcare facilities.
Quality public healthcare: There is a distinct division in the quality
of healthcare received by those who rely on the public healthcare system
and those who pay for private healthcare services. We will address this
inequality by building more public hospitals and clinics and training and
appointing more medical professionals.
Medical aid: The private healthcare sector has the power to alleviate
the strain placed on the public healthcare system, but it must be more
accessible. We will review the private healthcare insurance industry to
increase access to affordable comprehensive medical insurance, expand
minimum benefits, and improve oversight over the profit-driven aspects
of healthcare, like price gouging.
