Electoral record
Parties
Every party in the official results of South Africa’s elections since 1994, under the name the results list it with — and how it did in each election it stood in. A name the official results list differently is a separate record: the sources do not say whether two names are one party.

How party records are kept
Each record is a party exactly as the Electoral Commission’s results list it, with the abbreviations its reports print. Votes and shares are read from the results themselves, never typed in. Where a source states that a party changed its name, merged or split, the records are linked with that source; nothing is linked because two names look alike. In 1994 the national results list parties by abbreviation only, so those lines are records of their own.
